Holidays on the east coast of Zakynthos

A holiday to the Greek island of Zakynthos, or Zante as it is sometimes called, is an excellent way to experience the laid-back atmosphere of the Greek way of life.

Along the east coast there are a variety of resorts ranging from the vibrant resort of Tsilivi with its water parks that can be enjoyed in the day time and its bars, pubs and clubs in the evening to the quieter resorts such as Alykanas with its gently sloping sandy beaches and plenty of family friendly hotels and restaurants offering a wide choice of meals to suit every taste.

To get the most out of your stay in this area it is a good idea to hire either a scooter or quad bike if you are holidaying as a couple or a car if you have the family with you as this will enable you to explore the area fully. A trip into the mountains is recommended where you will be able to experience the magnificent views and may even come across one of the village tavernas where you can sample some of the local food at a very reasonable price.

A stay in the small picturesque village of Amoudi is a must if you are holidaying in this area especially if you are wanting small isolated beaches and lush olive groves.

Making memories whilst on holiday

If you are fortunate enough to have a holiday away with your family this year see it as a time to make memories that you and your children can think of during the grey winter months when holidays seem a long way off.

Making memories doesn’t need to cost a fortune as often the simplest activities mean more than expensive ones. An evening on the beach building a fire from driftwood and cooking sausages or toasting marshmallows costs very little and yet will stay in your children’s memories when you return home.

Collecting shells and pebbles from the shore then making a picture with the treasures is a wonderful way to remember a beach visit. Most children love building sandcastles so a team sandcastle building competition between siblings and friends is great fun.

Should you be holidaying in a town or city making a scrapbook is an inexpensive way of recording places visited and can be supplemented with tickets and leaflets of attractions visited. Children enjoy using a simple map and challenging them to find a destination is a fun way to engage them in the day’s activities. Photographs taken by the children and printed off at home can be included to remind them of their adventures.

Is Egypt a good choice for a family holiday?

When you think of family holidays, Egypt will probably not be the first place that comes to mind but I urge you not to dismiss it until you have done your research. Egypt unfortunately has had a few issues recently with crime and in the past terrorism that has made many people stay well away, but under all of this is a country that has a wealth of history and places waiting to be discovered. Recently the Uk has started to fly to move and more destinations within Egypt. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to the Governorate of North Sinai and against all but essential travel to the Governorate of South Sinai, except the area within the Sharm el Sheikh perimeter barrier and the area west of the Nile Valley and Nile Delta regions, excluding the coastal areas between the Nile Delta and Marsa Matruh. Egypt can offer the best of both worlds, trips to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Pyramids, a tour of the Valley of the Kings or a beautiful 5 star resort where you can enjoy the finest in food and accommodation.

Christmas shopping trips

As Christmas approaches, many of us are starting to think about the shopping that we need to do. The build up to Christmas is often the busiest time of the year for retailers and many will have offers and sales on to draw in as many people as possible. For some people, Christmas shopping is very enjoyable, and they are more than happy to make a day or weekend out of it. Turning your Christmas shopping into a weekend away may be right up your street.

Some popular destinations for Christmas shopping trips are London, Manchester, Birmingham or Chester. IF you are happy to go a little further afield then Paris, New York or Italy are perfect locations for shopping. Planning a shopping trip which is within the UK will reduce your travel time and allow you more time to shop but there are great savings to be had if you are willing to travel to America for your presents.

Always consider how you will bring any presents back with you on your return trip. If you are flying, you will have a luggage allowance and you will have to pay a fee if you exceed this. This may bump up the cost of all your presents meaning that you haven’t had such a great deal after all.  Also, some items such as consumables may not be allowed to be bought back through airport security so always check before you make a purchase.

Travel discounts for group bookings

If you are thinking of travelling in a group to a destination then you may want to do some research into discounts you may be eligible for.

There are many benefits to travelling in groups to a holiday destination such as company, safety and being able to save money.  Safety is the most important aspect of travelling with friends or family – as they say, safety in numbers. Going it alone cannot only be scary at times but can make you more vulnerable and likely to be a target of crime.

Many people forget to ask about group travel discounts and are unaware that most companies will offer these even if it is not clearly advertised. For example if you are looking to take a train journey to somewhere for more than 8 – 10 people then it is always worth contacting the train line company and asking if they can offer you a better price. This is also the case for accommodation where block bookings of parties of 10 or more can often save a few pennies. If you can also arrange for people to share rooms, this can cut the cost again. With group discounts you may find that if one or more of your party have to cancel then you may forfeit your discount and have to pay the full price.  Always be sure to check the terms and conditions of any discount offered.
