The Mawddach Estuary, Wales

If you’re thinking of a break away in Wales, the Mawddach estuary is a great location for those keen to enjoy the great outdoors. This picturesque area of Mid Wales serves as a good base to explore the whole region with Harlech and its marvellous castle, Bala lake and a host of popular seaside towns are all within a short drive.

The estuary area offers plenty to see, with great views of majestic Cader Idris, rich bird life and the wide sands of Barmouth, which lie at the mouth of the estuary itself.

If walking is your thing, there’s plenty on offer. Famous routes such as the Torrent Walk and Precipice Walk have been in use since victorian times. The New Precipice walk passes through a bird sanctuary, taking in an abandoned gold mine alongside a dramatic mountain stream. For the committed walker the 50 kilometre Mawddach way offers 3 days of stunning views and beautiful scenery.
